Mysterious Objects

 

 

 

 

The Fragmentary Index:

 

Taking a new set of clay castings at strategic locations around Primrose Hill, I used these materials sourced from my physical context to construct a fragmentary index of the site.

The performance of a series of manipulations of the image-capturing process while the scanner documents the objects’ physical properties objectively captures the subjective and aesthetic effects that co-exist with what is perceived as objective reality, in the same moment of recording.

Performance and Object Overlay Studies:

 

After the Mysterious Objects were used in a controlled setting, and the Geometric, Dynamic, and Formal Studies of the Ritual Performance in an outdoor venue were completed, these studies were produced to try and understand any phenomena that the rituals may have in common, despite their completely differing natures.

The Mysterious Objects:

 

The question tackled in this research was: can meaning be  constructed from ephemeral phenomena? Having deconstructed momentary urban phenomena via Chronographic Tracings of Events, it was important to create a “control” group by working with abstract qualities in a controlled studio setting. In order to abstract this from recognizable human experience, the objects if interaction were created ex-nihilo and the phenomena of light and movement were used in a controlled fashion.
