#Cardwear Dress Form

Laser-Cut Masonite, Waffled

After we created the #Cardwear Dress for Emily McDowell Studio, Emily loved it and wanted to take it on the road.  So she commissioned us to create a form for the transportation and display of the dress.

We used Grasshopper and Rhino3d to create the form from custom measurements and calculate the shape of the individual pieces. We decided on this radial waffle structure so that it would be light enough to transport, and strong enough to withstand the trip. The design was laser cut from sheets of masonite and assembled by hand.

The dress and form were first displayed at the NYNow Stationary Show in May of 2015.  They have subsequently been installed at the Lynn Mitchell Showroom in downtown Los Angeles.
